HBRACC Honors Anthi Frangiadis Associates’ Projects with Gold Award
November 10, 2016

November 10, 2016 — The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod held their BRICC Awards Dinner at the Wequassett Resort & Golf Club to a sold-out room. The award winners were announced and Anthi Frangiadis Associates was honored with the Gold Award for Excellence in Use of Local Art/Artisan Work for design work completed at the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, 70 Main St., Buzzards Bay, MA. Work by artisans Katherine Hallam and Alvin Winant is featured in this design project. The existing building is a former railroad station and serves as a gateway to Main St. The improvements were funded through the Community Preservation Act under the category of Historic Preservation.

“The primary intent at the Visitor Center and in this project was to feature the highlight the region and its assets,” says Anthi Frangiadis AIA, “and to provide information to visitors and residents about the Towns of Bourne, Sandwich, and Wareham in a cohesive logical manner. The design improvements include lighting and plumbing fixture upgrades in both public restrooms and common area; as well as an interior color palette that compliments the historic character of the former railroad station.

The restrooms feature the work of Bourne resident, Katherine Hallam of Whimsical Notions which adorns the interior walls of the existing restrooms. Kathy, a decorative painter and collaborator of AFA, worked with the local historical commission as well as the Chamber representatives to design murals that depicted the history of the area and captured the visitor experience through postcards. The common area features the work of Sutton resident, Alvin Winant of Place Unique Forms. Alvin, an architect and furniture designer, created a new reception desk that includes the topography of the Upper Cape with focus on the Cape Cod Canal and the towns of Bourne, Sandwich, and Wareham.

All of the artisan work is complemented by a backdrop of interior paint color selections from the Farrow & Ball palette.
